Kansas Erosion Control

American Excelsior - Rolled Erosion Control Products

American Excelsior Company—the inventor of biodegradable erosion control blankets and the Curlex® brand—has been the most trusted name in erosion control for 50 years.

Erosion Control Blankets are thick, fibrous blankets woven out of either natural materials (e.g., straw and coconut fiber), synthetic materials (e.g., polypropylene), or a mixture of natural and synthetic. These blankets are used primarily to slow water runoff, provide effective sediment and erosion control, and enhance re-vegetation. These blankets are commonly applied to channel and ditch linings, slopes, culvert inlets, and outfalls, riverbanks, and levees. Erosion control blankets are classified as short-term, long-term, or permanent use, mostly based on whether vegetation is intended to replace or work in conjunction with the blankets.

Welded Wire Inlet Protectors

Description: Weld Wire monofilament protectors consist of three (3) parts:

1. 36” wide geotextile fabric shall be Win Fab 2098. Geotextile fabric is composed of monofilament polypropylene yarns woven into a stable network such that the yarns retain their relative position.

2. 6” x 6” welded wire mesh geotextile composite shall be 30” tall, formed, and secured into a 42” minimum diameter circle.

3. Fastening rings shall be constructed of wire conforming to ASTM A-641, A-809, A-370, and A-938. Assembly Geotextile shall be wrapped at least one inch over the top member of the 6” x 6” welded wire mesh and secured with fastening rings at six inches on center. Geotextile shall be secured to the sides of the welded wire mesh with fastening rings at a spacing of one per square foot. The fastening rings shall penetrate both layers of geotextile and securely close around a steel member. The bottom 2”+/- of fabric shall be left unsecured to allow for entrenchment.

One of the greatest environmental concerns we face these days is soil erosion. This is a widespread problem due to the rise of urbanization and many ongoing construction projects.  When buildings are constructed, the land is ripped up and dug out, exposing the soil to possible erosion.

Metal Frame is specially designed to hold a basket under the grate. The basket is made of a high-flow material allowing water to flow directly through the grate and basket, leaving all sediment and debris behind.

Our special woven geotextile is made up of polypropylene filaments. These filaments are woven to form a stable and durable network such that the filaments retain their relative position. It is non-biodegradable and resistant to moving soil chemicals, acids, and alkalis, with a pH range of 3 to 12.

Max Katz-Sand Bags

Sandbags are important in most preparedness plans, as flooding often occurs without warning. Our Woven Polypropylene Sandbag measures 14" x 26" and is white in color, and UV treated. They are ideal when the strongest material is essential for flood control, levee, trench, and berm construction, plus all temporary protective barriers. We have supplied these sandbags to various government agencies and municipalities for the past 50 years.


Each sandbag features a hemmed top, flat woven, and double-sewn seams toenhance durability. How It Works

Articulating concrete revetment systems in conjunction with an underlying geotextile or filter will help retain and stabilize onsite soils from the destructive forces associated with storm events.  By acting as ballast for the geotextile, it is important to choose the ideal shape and weight of the concrete units.  Once the mattresses are in place, they provide structural stability to prevent ongoing erosion or scour.  Because of their articulating nature and the fact that the cables are cast directly into the concrete, the entire mattress will remain cohesive, while allowing for natural settlement over time.

Open and Closed Cell Designs

  • Open-Cell Mattresses: Open-cell concrete units can stop erosion from occurring, and also can reverse erosion effects through the planting of vegetation within the open cells of the concrete. This permanent solution offers sustainable erosion control and restoration. Additionally, the open-cell systems will allow for the hydrostatic release of pressure on wave action applications (or any situation with a quick water drawdown).
  • Closed-Cell Mattresses: Closed-cell concrete units offer the stability necessary to cover heavily eroded areas and those prone to catastrophic erosion and continued abuse.
  • Vegetation: With both the open and closed-cell Cable Concrete® mattresses, vegetation can take place over time.  If vegetation is desired, soil can be backfilled to just below the top of the blocks and reseeded.

ShoreFlex® is a high-strength geogrid encapsulated in a matrix of 5,000 psi concrete blocks (6.5”x 6.5”x 2.25”) spaced 1.5” apart and attached to an erosion control blanket or high-performance turf reinforcement mat.                                                                                                                                              

ShoreFlex®  standard mat size is 8’ x 32’, but custom sizes are available upon request. Our packaging is rolled for ease of shipping, handling, and installation. ShoreFlex® installation is quick and easy, with an 11 lb/sqft weight and the ability to be permanently anchored in place; most installations can be accomplished with smaller lightweight equipment.

ScourStop® Transition Mats

ScourStop® Transition Mats are an engineered, proven, bio-technical alternative to traditional hard-armor systems. ScourStop® Transition Mats are manufactured of a semi-rigid HDPE.
