Soil & Sediment Erosion Control

Erosion prevention measures are more effective than the reactive control of sediment. Once soil particles become dislodged, it requires greater efforts and costs to contain the sediment on the site.

Sediment leaving the site may damage neighboring properties, block drainage systems, and enter roadways. Local government budgets must pay for removing the sediment from these streets, sewers, ditches, and culverts.

Kansas Erosion Control

Kansas Erosion, LLC. makes high-quality straw erosion control products. Our blankets provide a stable environment for seed germination, seedling growth, and vegetation establishment. The straw wattles reduce erosion, increase filtration, and retain soil for one to two years while permanent vegetation becomes established.

Central Kansas has the best straw in the country – and plenty of it! Our history in the straw marketplace, combined with an entire manufacturing workforce dedicated to excellence and on-time product delivery and an entire manufacturing workforce dedicated to excellence and on-time product delivery, make makes us unique in the industry.

We recycle what is normally a strain on the environment into a useful, eco-friendly product. Burning crop residues such as wheat stubble has a negative impact on air quality, the productivity of soil resources, and water quality (e.g., from soil erosion). We remove high stubble loads from the fields, reducing nitrogen immobilization and soil stratification.

American Excelsior - Rolled Erosion Control Products

American Excelsior Company—the inventor of biodegradable erosion control blankets and the Curlex® brand—has been the most trusted name in erosion control for 50 years.

Erosion Control Blankets are thick, fibrous blankets woven out of either natural materials (e.g., straw and coconut fiber), synthetic materials (e.g., polypropylene), or a mixture of natural and synthetic. These blankets are used primarily to slow water runoff, provide effective sediment and erosion control, and enhance re-vegetation. These blankets are commonly applied to channel and ditch linings, slopes, culvert inlets, and outfalls, riverbanks, and levees. Erosion control blankets are classified as short-term, long-term, or permanent use, mostly based on whether vegetation is intended to replace or work in conjunction with the blankets.

American Excelsior offers a wide variety of erosion control blankets under the Curlex® brand and other specialized products, like the Quick GRASS® Pro, to meet a plethora of needs.

Dandy Bags Inlet Protection

Sediment Control Solutions, Inlet Protection, and Inlet Filters For All Stormwater Systems and Dewatering Projects

One of the greatest environmental concerns we face these days is soil erosion. This is a widespread problem due to the rise of urbanization and many ongoing construction projects.  When buildings are constructed, the land is ripped up and dug out, exposing the soil to possible erosion.

Sediments dug up during construction can find their way into the city's water system through storm sewers, storm grates, and storm inlets. This includes large and small projects alike.

Because of the potential danger to our environment, the government has required contractors to use a professional-grade inlet filter and to erect their own sediment control solutions and measures when starting any new project.

Stormwater and Sediment Control Solutions

The Dandy Bag, Dandy Pop, and Dandy Sack are three proven solutions from our inlet filter family that help protect storm grates, and storm drains from heavy, sediment-laden stormwater.

Providing Superior Inlet Protection

Dandy stormwater control, sediment control products, and curb inlet protection filters are used to filter out light or thick sediment-laden stormwater from sewer drains (with or without grates) and provide superior inlet protection. They also provide excellent de-watering and oil skimmer solutions.

Curb and Gutter Inlet Filters

The Dandy Curb, Dandy Curb Sack, and Dandy Curb Bag are three reliable and durable curb inlet filters and gutter inlet filters that will help you divert all sediment from entering an inlet.

Frye Flow - Dewatering Bags

Frye Flow Systems Products

Frye Flow Systems Liner in stand:
6.3 Cubic Feet Capacity
Metal Frame is specially designed to hold a basket under the grate. The basket is made of a high-flow material allowing water to flow directly through the grate and basket, leaving all sediment and debris behind.

Our special woven geotextile is made up of polypropylene filaments. These filaments are woven to form a stable and durable network such that the filaments retain their relative position. It is non-biodegradable and resistant to moving soil chemicals, acids, and alkalis, with a pH range of 3 to 12.

Max Katz-Sand Bags

Sandbags are important in most preparedness plans, as flooding often occurs without warning. Our Woven Polypropylene Sandbag measures 14" x 26" and is white in color, and UV treated. They are ideal when the strongest material is essential for flood control, levee, trench, and berm construction, plus all temporary protective barriers. We have supplied these sandbags to various government agencies and municipalities for the past 50 years.

Each sandbag features a hemmed top, flat woven, and double-sewn seams toenhance durability. Our polypropylene bags can also be used for feed, grains, beans, etc. The tight flat weave is designed to hold and maintain a superior seal for flood control and will last longer than burlap bags when uncovered. Each bag includes an attached cord provided to tie bags quickly on the fly, or bags may be filled halfway and flap folded over for maximum jointing for levee placement.

Be safe and be prepared with a good stock of our sandbags. Quick action and bags on-hand could save countless dollars in personal and property damage. Stock up on these sand bags while time is still on your side!

Astro Wood Stake-Wooden Stakes

Premier Concrete Products - Articulated Concrete Mats

How It Works

Articulating concrete revetment systems in conjunction with an underlying geotextile or filter will help retain and stabilize onsite soils from the destructive forces associated with storm events.  By acting as ballast for the geotextile, it is important to choose the ideal shape and weight of the concrete units.  Once the mattresses are in place, they provide structural stability to prevent ongoing erosion or scour.  Because of their articulating nature and the fact that the cables are cast directly into the concrete, the entire mattress will remain cohesive, while allowing for natural settlement over time.

Open and Closed Cell Designs

  • Open-Cell Mattresses: Open-cell concrete units can stop erosion from occurring, and also can reverse erosion effects through the planting of vegetation within the open cells of the concrete. This permanent solution offers sustainable erosion control and restoration. Additionally, the open-cell systems will allow for the hydrostatic release of pressure on wave action applications (or any situation with a quick water drawdown).
  • Closed-Cell Mattresses: Closed-cell concrete units offer the stability necessary to cover heavily eroded areas and those prone to catastrophic erosion and continued abuse.
  • Vegetation: With both the open and closed-cell Cable Concrete® mattresses, vegetation can take place over time.  If vegetation is desired, soil can be backfilled to just below the top of the blocks and reseeded.

ScourStop® Transition Mats

ScourStop® Transition Mats are an engineered, proven, bio-technical alternative to traditional hard-armor systems. ScourStop® Transition Mats are manufactured of a semi-rigid HDPE. When combined with soft-armor soil cover and deep-soil earth anchors, the ScourStop® system mechanically protects soil from severe scour and erosion. The ScourStop® system offers greater protection than vegetation alone or rip rap and is lab-tested and field-proven to protect against considerably higher shear stresses and velocities. ScourStop® Transition Mats provide a permanent, low-maintenance solution with immediate, day-one protection and impact resistance over highly erosive areas such as stormwater outfalls, curb outfalls, overflow structures, drainage channels, levees, and shorelines.
